Porsche Design 50th Anniversary

Porsche Design marks a half-century of excellence with a modern redo of two classics, as well as two new limited-edition pieces.

While Porsche is most famous for creating some truly special road-going and racing automobiles, the brand’s reach goes much further than the tarmac. In fact, Porsche Design is celebrating 50 years in 2022, and as one might imagine, it’s doing so in a very special way. That starts with a new exhibit at the Porsche Museum dubbed “50 Years Engineered Passion,” which takes a look back at a variety of historic Porsche Design items including watches, sunglasses, luggage, and writing instruments, but the brand is also releasing some very special new items to celebrate this anniversary as well.

Along with the six-month exhibition at the Porsche Museum, Porsche Design is also marking its half-century in business with the introduction of new anniversary editions of the Chronograph I, including the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition and the Chronograph 1 – 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design, as well as the world premiere of two Porsche sports car models – the 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa Classic and the 2022 Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design special model.

The Chronograph I was Porsche’s very first timepiece, as well as the world’s first black chronograph, and its reissue coincides with Porsche Design’s anniversary. The new version pays homage to the original, yet packs state-of-the-art tech and is limited to 500 total pieces. Constructed from titanium, it also features automatic movement with COSC certification. This timepiece is complemented by the restored 1972 911, which is equipped with styling details taken from the timepiece.

As for the 2022 version of this special 911, Porsche will build 750 units for worldwide consumption, and it also features a number of details inspired by the Chronograph 1. Those that purchase one of these special machines also get an individually numbered version of the new Chronograph 1 – 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design, which is also limited to 750 pieces.

Porsche, and we continue to inspire customers all over the world with our diverse product portfolio,” said Dr. Jan Becker, CEO Porsche Lifestyle Group. “Our goal for the future remains focused on creating timeless design icons in all areas of life.”
