New Porsche Panamera Debuts in Berlin
The Porsche Panamera, not only the most ridiculed Porsche of all time, but perhaps the most ridiculed sports sedan in history. While Porsche had no trouble selling the 101 versions of it during its initial run, even they attempted to correct the design gaffe with the second generation.
Just unveiled at a major Porsche event in Berlin, Germany, the all-new Porsche Panamera, which according to the German manufacturer, it has been completely redesigned from the ground up with two core ideas in mind; performance and luxury.
“We have tapped into the segment of luxury sport saloons with the Panamera. Since it launched in 2009, more than 150,000 units of the Panamera have been sold. In the new model, you see here a completely redeveloped automobile – with new engines, a new design and new technologies. Also new is that we are now manufacturing the second generation vehicle entirely at our Leipzig production site. We have also invested a sum of 500 million euros – which includes a completely new body manufacturing facility,” emphasized Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
Unlike the previous generation, the new Panamera’s design attempts to link the sedan to the Porsche 911 by being much more dynamic, agile and sleek in design.
When it comes to power, the new range of engines are all turbocharged and paired to PDK transmissions, and expected to deliver a staggering 422 horsepower for the diesel model, 440 for the Panamera S, and 550 for the Turbo model.
Personally, I believe this design should’ve been the initial design palette for the Panamera, with a facelift delivered by 2017. In other words, while this is a much nicer design, it still doesn’t look quite as revolutionary as it should.
