Porsche Taycan video taken in Germany showcases aggressive, sexy shape for future brands’ first electric vehicle.
Porsche, like many other manufacturers, has committed to electrification with its Mission E sub-brand. Of course, the first vehicle to bear fruit from the Mission E name is the Porsche Taycan. The Taycan is a four-door ‘coupe’ that seems poised to be the electrified, and even sexier take on the Panamera Sport Turismo.
However, until now, we have relied on heavily camouflaged spy shots, and concept designs to discern how the Taycan would take shape. Now, we have a video of a largely uncamouflaged model, seen here testing in Germany, thanks to Twitter user, @ZoePionierin.
The Twitter user (Twitterist?) spotted this Porsche test vehicle stopped at a local garage, seemingly recharging, and being inspected by testers. The only visible camouflage appears to be on the quarter panels and rear fascia, giving us the clearest look yet at the Taycan.
With a long nose, presumably for storage, and two large doors on either side, Taycan is definitively Panamera-esque in proportion. Of course, the double bubble roof, with its aggressive sloped lines is much more sporty than even the Panamera Sport Turismo. To our eyes it’s slightly reminiscent of the now-departed Aston Martin Rapide. That said, the rear end of the car is all Porsche. We spy provisions for a pop-up spoiler, a la Panamera and the rear light strip is no unlike a contemporary 911.
Interestingly, this test mule is sporting charging ports on both the left and right-side fenders. We presume that this reflects market differences, with some cars having charging ports on the left, or right side. Twin charging ports would certainly be unusual, otherwise.
That said, with Porsche buying a 10% minority stake in electric supercar maker Rimac, we could be seeing some serious next-gen electric vehicle hardware at play here. More news as we get it.
