Porsche’s New 911 GT2 RS Packs A Huge 641 Horsepower
The GT2 RS nameplate is back, and it stands to be a total brute.
Porsche’s cars that have “GT” anywhere in the name have typically been far too awesome for words, and via our friends at AutoBlog the newest 911 GT2 RS has no problem keeping up with that trend. Spy shots and insider info reveal that the new GT2 will shove 614 horsepower behind the back axle. Controlling all that power will be standard carbon ceramic brakes.
Don’t think of it as a 2WD 911 Turbo S with more boost. Porsche’s head of GT development, Andreas Preuninger, has stated the 3.8 flat 6 engine had upgraded and stronger internal components. There is a big difference in how the power goes to the wheels, however. Porsche’s PDK transmission will be the only one available. We’re ready to hear the cries of passionate and upset traditionalists. With two fewer wheels being driven, traction is key, and the GT2 RS will deploy a locking differential.
Weight has been of particular concern when developing the GT2, and reports indicate a final production weight at a relatively acceptable 3,300 pounds. Not exactly the lightest car on the planet, but it makes up for it with power. Even with upgraded aero, to say it’ll be a handful is a bit of an understatement.
