Ford Shows off Production-Ready Ford GT in Detroit, Wows Crowd, and Even Appeals to Vice President Biden

There’s a term I like to call the “NXS-effect.” The NSX-effect stands for long delays, teasing beyond limits, and becoming an auto show groupie. Unlike the new Acura NSX, the Ford GT only made two (Detroit) auto show appearances as a concept. Much to our pleasure, it came back as an actual real production car on its third rodeo. Compare that to about four or five for the NSX? The whole thing just took too long.

6SpeedOnline was present at the 2017 North American Auto Show, which we still like to call the Detroit Auto Show. There, Ford surprised us with a production-ready model of their venerable Ford GT supercar. The GT made its first public appearance during the 2015 edition of the show, after living in secrecy from day one. In fact, the blue GT you see below is that very same car. We thought it’d be interesting to show you the two-year-old photos, and see its evolution from prototype to production.

The Ford GT that will be delivered to customers starting this year will feature a 6 cylinder engine, and cost upwards of $500,000. Ford says the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine will generate over 600 horsepower, and a recent gauge cluster photo released by Ford shows 216 mph on it. Whether that’s a way of leaking its top speed or not, we’re not sure, but it could be.

On the last day of the press-preview, Vice President Joe Biden toured the show floor and stopped to take a look at the scarlet GT. As a result, Ford CEO Mark Fields enticed him to get behind the wheel.

Furthermore, the Le Mans-winning Ford GT featured original grime and dirt (supposedly) from the famed French race. Needless to say, it looked pretty darn cool in all of its dirty glory!
