TUSCC Road America Part Two with Video!
I ventured out among the pits and finally got to see more of the track than just the paddock and front straight. THIS TRACK IS HUGE! Seriously, I never rightly comprehended how large this track actually is.
My only experience running around a track is from running around Circuit of the America’s last year for the Formula 1 race. That could be a go-kart track compared to Road America.
I setup into turn 3 which is right at the end of a straight coming out of the first tunnel. There was a gravel trap right in front of me, so I figured it was a safe bet that someone was going to go head on into the trap. That didn’t happen, but someone did overcook it into the turn and lost it spinning him twice.
After a few more minutes shooting there I headed to the carousel which is turns 8-10. I’ve never been to this part of the track and I was treated to some of the best opposite lock driving I’ve seen.
The cars were coming into turn 8 around 100 mph, throwing it into the turn, a bit of sliding and heading into the long right hander. I shot there for a few minutes and decided I didn’t want to die from the heat and started heading back. Just my luck, another Porsche spins right there and almost takes out three other cars.
Luckily, he saved it from being a complete and utter cluster cock-up. However, one other driver didn’t see the yellow soon enough and almost drifted the rear-end of the Porsche GT3 into the driver’s door of the car that spun.
I also got to shoot the prototype LITES class from pit lane which was super cool. Here’s a video, sorry about the sound, I haven’t bought my new microphone just yet.
