Imagine the Ferrari LaFerrari, stripped of its hybrid components. No electric power adders, just the most technologically advanced chassis that Ferrari could build with a powerful, new Ferrari v12. Sounds awesome right? Well, the word is that Maserati is planning to do exactly that by 2015 using the LaFerrari as a base model. Yeah. I really want this to happen too.

Since there’s been absolutely no public word from either company about this… Why not dive into rampant, unbridled speculation?

If they do build this anything like that last one, they’ll probably end up detuning the Ferrari’s nearly 800hp V12 by some margin. That’s what they did when they turned the Enzo into the MC12, so I anticipate they might do the same thing here. Then again, it’s completely possible that the absence of the hybrid drive train would be enough of a downgrade that they wouldn’t have to. Car suggests Maserati equip it with a quad-boosted setup a la the Bugatti Veyron. While I know Ferrari has typically stayed away from turbos in the consumer cars, who’s to say that Maserati has to?

maserati-Birdcage-Concept (1)Of course, the biggest part of this whole equation is the exterior. Since this is currently nothing more than pure fantasy, I hope that Maserati completely redoes the body. Car says they’re focusing more on low drag as opposed to downforce. Considering that the entire car looks like it’s trying to be either and intake of a spoiler, I’d say that’s a welcome change. Preferably, it’d look like the birdcage.

Also, it’ll likely be incredibly rare. The MC12 was a limited run of only 50 cars. Do you think it’ll happen? Let us know in the comments.
