SEMA 2012: Carbon Fiber Wheels?

This is something new. We’ve seen the carbon fiber trend explode over the years to encompass almost every part a car. Body panels, hoods, spoilers, heck we’ve even seen carbon fiber seat belt cushions. But we’ve never seen wheels.

It’s not like this is the first carbon fiber wheel ever, though. Motorcycles have had them for quite sometime even if I’ve never seen them on a car. The truth is that CF does have an extremely high tensile strength, and should be able to handle the stresses that a high performance car undergoes on the track.

There are other benefits too. You don’t have to worry about deformation due to heat, they’re super light, and they won’t corrode in salty, wet weather. Also, they look really, really cool. Check them out on this 911 below and let us know what you think.
