The Sights and Sounds of a Porsche 918 Spyder on a Runway
The Porsche 918 is one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world, and it makes some of the best noises of any current supercar. The odd noise of the electric motor whine when it takes off gets swallowed by the angry bellow of that big V8, and it culminates into a hellacious racket. It is amazing. To prove just how good it sounds, and just how fast this car is, let me treat you to a wonderful 2-minute slab of video. In this YouTube clip we have several passes of the 918 down a big runway being chased by all manner of cars from AMG Mercedes to Paganis.
Of course, nothing ever seems to be anywhere near the Porsche at any time. The car simply walks off and leaves like everyone else was going backwards. The event looks to be pretty lax, and there are no hard timing lights. With that in mind, not all races are actual drag races so much as they are two fast cars going down the same strip of concrete, but it’s still fun to watch.
Just make sure you turn up those speakers. This video has no silly voiceovers and no music; it just has all that angry exhaust noise from a collection of supercars having a day of fun.
