Special Projects Department Delivers Stunning Ferrari FJ50
When Mr. Money Bags decides he wants a new toy, he doesn’t buy any Ferrari. He simply rings Maranello’s Special Projects department, and tells them to get to work. Andiamo!
Ferrari gave us a special treat today when they released the photographs of their new Special Project department’s creation. The Ferrari FJ50. Designed by the same group of people that produced Eric Clapton’s, and the Sultan of Brunei’s Ferraris, this bad boy is here to commemorate a corporate milestone.
Ferrari is turning the big 5-0 in Japan, and the Italian manufacturer is building 10 bespoke J50s for its best Japanese clients. After all, turning 50-years-old in any market is a pretty big deal. Specially given Asia’s wealth concentration, which makes it one of the most important markets for luxury goods.
The two-seater, mid-rear-engined roadster resembles iconic targas from the 1970s and 1980s. Powered by a 681 horsepower 3.9-litre turbocharged V8, it produces 20 horsepower more than the “normal” 488 GTB. Ferrari did not release performance figures, but they’re expected to be near stock.
Purposefully designed to look futuristic, the windshield resembles a racer’s helmet visor. The elite design team did away with the folding roof, and introduced carbon fiber targa panels instead. The perimeter features clever active aero features, providing the Ferrari FJ50 impressive aero grip. As a result, the bespoke creation will perform as good as it looks.
Ferrari did not release any pricing on the FJ50. They did say that each one of the 10 vehicles will be custom tailored to its owner’s individual preferences.
