No matter if you are a classic guy, a road racer guy, a modified guy, or anything else, the one thing we can all agree on one thing, that is that Steve McQueen is the king of cool and anything he touched is probably going to be awesome. McQueen was probably one of the biggest carguy’s ever. The man raced them, collected them, and quintessentially drove them to their limits. He was taken from the world far too early but that legacy of motor racing lives on with all the motors he touched throughout his life.

In 1971, McQueen wanted to showcase a race that had become very special in his heart, the twice around the clock race, LeMans. Somehow, he got Hollywood to let him film in real racecars, on the track, just because he wanted to. The car he drove in the film was a Porsche 917, one of the most winning cars ever to race at LeMans. Now McQueen didn’t have a stunt guy, or have a stunt car that was rigged up to a dolly or anything like that. He had a racecar. And not a fake one that just looked like the 917. He had an actual race 917. That same car already had a massive winning history when McQueen drove it for the movie and had made that car immensely valuable. Now that car and the camera car, a Ford GT, yes a real Ford GT, are going up for sale.

The cars value isn’t really known, but another car McQueen owned went for a few million just last year. Now with all of the history behind this car, plus all of the McQueen history, this car is definitely going to set a record. This car without all the history of McQueen would be amazingly valuable. The Gulf livery, the winning record, the driver history, this car is just truly amazing. Earlier this month I got my own glimpse into McQueen history when I had the chance to sit on one of his Indian’s. Just the ability to be that close was awe inspiring, but the chance to own something like this would be the chance of a lifetime.

Talking with Hagerty, I believe this car will most likely go for around 10-15 million. If any of you want a piece of McQueen and racing history, either start planning a bank heist or try to get your local bank to give you a loan, because this won’t be seen for a long time after it’s sold.
