Stone Cold Beautiful: A Stone Grey 911 Dakar and GT3 RS Are Paint to Sample Perfection

Stone Grey GT3 RS

Two of the most desirable 911 models are covered by the same gorgeous Stone Grey paint and were at the same dealership.

You have to give Porsche credit. They know how to build desirable sports cars. A garden variety 911 Carrera is one of the best sports cars on the planet. But the GT3 RS and Dakar versions turn the desirability knob up to eleven. If you need proof of this just look at the MSRP compared to current selling prices. Or walk into your local Porsche dealer and tell the salesperson that you would like to order one of these cars. After the laughter subsides, they will offer you a bottle of water as they escort you to the exit. And the cars pictured here are even more special as they are covered in Stone Grey paint which is only available through the Paint to Sample program.

To see two cars like this at the same dealership is like being struck by lightning while standing on a four-leaf clover. It just doesn’t happen. Except it did happen at TOYZ autoart in Canada. They somehow managed to have both of these stunning cars in their showroom at the same time. Unfortunately, it seems like the GT3 RS has been sold. So, you will now have to “settle” for the 911 Dakar. Assuming you have the $323,799 they are asking for it.

911 Dakar

Porsche witnessed the recent popularity of the 911 safari builds that were popping up and decided to build one of their own. And they built a stunner. It is based on the 992.1 Carrera 4 GTS but has been lifted, fitted with knobby tires and given Rallye and Offroad driving modes. The 911 Dakar won’t conquer the Rubicon Trail but it could be a total blast at the beach. It is unique, different and limited to just 2,500 examples. Porsche is no longer building them, but you can still find a few on dealer lots. The one for sale here has just 18 miles on the clock. And that Stone Grey paint looks absolutely perfect on a car that begs to be driven on the sand.

GT3 RS

Does the 911 GT3 RS really need an introduction? It is the most track focused, roadgoing 911 that Porsche ever created. The naturally aspirated 518 horsepower flat six engine screams to 9,000 rpm. But that is not all that makes the car special. It comes with a whole host of aerodynamic witchcraft. That includes a drag reduction system that is similar to what you find on current Formula One cars. The GT3 RS is street legal, but it was built for track duty. Parking it next to your matching Stone Grey 911 Dakar would be one heck of a garage.

Paint to Sample

Paint to Sample

Porsche nerds freak out over paint to sample colors. And for good reason. Too many people play it safe with black, white, silver and red. Not that those are bad colors for a Porsche. We would take a Dakar or GT3 RS if it was painted with yellow and green polka dots. Stone Grey is available as a $20,960 paint to sample option on the GT3 RS. You can buy an entire Kia Soul for that money. But Porsche will let you take things even further with the Paint to Sample Plus program. For a healthy $43,390 Porsche will paint your GT3 RS in any technically feasible color that you want. It is great to have that flexibility, but at the end of the day it is the car underneath that impresses the most.
