Supercar Shootout Final Round! McLaren F1 vs Porsche 918
UPDATE – Round Fourteen Winner: McLaren F1!
McLaren’s F1 was a revolution. In many ways it is still a revolution. This is the car that defined the way we think about super cars in the present day. There were always Ferrari’s, and Lamborhginis, and American cars, and German cars that could handle and go-fast… But they were never McLaren fast. The immense speed, combined with the unique styling and extreme exclusivity made it special in a way that no car had been before. It was a titan.
Fast forward to 2014 and the world is different. In 1992, navigation was a Thomas Guide, cars with more than 300 horsepower was fast, global warming was just something hippies complained about, and Porsche still believed you only needed air to cool an engine.
This modern world has produced a modern super car in the 918. There are fewer cylinders in the 918, for instance. It has a normal two seat arrangement. It has all-wheel drive. The battery sends power to the headlights and the wheels. It’ll get from zero to sixty in fewer than three seconds. It’s brakes have the power to slow the rotation of the earth. Hyperbole? Maybe. But that doesn’t make the 918 any less amazing.
