T3 Motorsport Will Bring Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo to DTM Series
Lamborghini will do battle with Audi, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes-AMG in the 2021 DTM season.
The DTM season opener is set for the weekend of June 19 – 20 at Monza. At this event T3 Motorsport will be bringing a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo. The car will be piloted by 19-year-old Esteban Muth. Muth will be the second-youngest driver on the 2021 DTM grid this year. The street legal Huracan Evo is one hell of a car. And racing a Lamborghini on the street can be exciting. However, the professional world of racing is a whole different ballgame. It is in the field of professional racing that Lamborghini hopes to cement their reputation. They have their own one-make series but also have recently competed in the GT3 class. Lamborghini teams scored three consecutive class wins in the Daytona 24 Hours between 2018 and 2020. They hope to build on that success with the entry into DTM.
DTM is a highly competitive race series. It is run with sports cars based on the GT3 regulations of the global motoring federation FIA. More than a dozen auto manufacturers have a GT3 racing car in its portfolio. Fans of the manufacturers get to see their favorite brands do battle with their competitors. Now Lamborghini will be dicing it up with the likes of Ferrari and BMW on the DTM stage. DTM will have some changes to the format this year as well. A new “DTM formation start”, a rolling double-file start in close formation will be used. It will be thrilling to see how Lamborghini and the T3 Motorsport team stand up to the competition.
Racing driver Muth is young, but the Belgian teen has some experience under his belt. Muth competed in some GT4 European Series races last year. He also raced in the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup round at Barcelona in Strakka Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. In addition, he has some single-seater background. This includes stints in French Formula 4 and the Toyota Racing Series where he finished fifth in the 2019 standings behind DTM drivers Liam Lawson and Lucas Auer.
T3 is no stranger to racing but they are on the young side as well. “For T3 Motorsport, it is a milestone in the team’s young history. It is a big step into the future, which is particularly important to be part of the DTM right from the start, with the adjusted technical regulations.” Said team boss Jens Feucht. While the team and driver are anxious to prove themselves, they won’t have much time to practice before things get real. Muth and T3 will get to complete only a single pre-season test at Lausitzring from May 4 – 6. They did not submit their entry in time for the two-day Hockenheim test that concluded earlier in April.
Adding another premier sports car maker to the DTM grid will only make the series more exciting. We can’t wait to see how the young team and driver get on this season. Will they be able to compete with the more established teams and brands? We don’t know, but what we do know is we can’t wait to see that Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo in action.
