Tesla Model S on the Dyno
The Tesla Model S is a remarkable machine. It has advanced the electric car like the iPhone has advanced smartphones. Game changer? Yes, indeed.
Before the Tesla Model S was introduced, electric cars were known for being very green and efficient. The Model S is all those things, plus a robust performer. It’s the best of all worlds — a balanced meal of green and performance.
What happens when that performance is measured at the dyno? You get 428.2 horsepower to the wheels. Tesla says the electric motor makes 416 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, so it would appear we have some low-balling happening here. For comparison, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray puts 411 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque to the road.
