The 1965 Porsche 912 Powered by a Chevy Small Block
What do you make of this ’65 Porsche 912 with a big ol’ V8 hanging out the back? Is this sacrilege, or righteous?
What’s worse: jettisoning the flat-six out of a 911 and dumping a V8 in its place, or scrapping the wimpy 912’s four-banger in favor of a 327-cubic-inch small block? Think that’s an easy answer? Granted, the 912 originally had 90 horsepower, but with a lighter engine, it handled better than the 911 of the time because of superior weight distribution. Is this 912’s owner, Ted Söderstet, a heretic for giving the middle finger to the classic 912’s raison d’être? Maybe you can find it in your heart to forgive him — after all, his Porsche has 400 horsepower, and Lord knows how much torque … delicious low-end torque.
