The Harley-Davidson Road Glide is Built for Speed
Harley-Davidson’s Road Glide is built for speed and it will take you to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally just as easily as a trip to your favorite watering hole. I rode this year’s model from Southern California to the Black Hills of South Dakota and back again and it was incredible.
From the shark-nose design of its aerodynamic fairing to the rumble of its 103 cubic inches (1690cc) air-cooled engine with an integrated oil cooler. The monstrous motorcycle sounds incredibly loud when you fire it up – as it should.
It excels at speeds above 80 mph and has a sweet spot at 3250 RPMs that mimics the engine riffs heard on the opening track of L.A. Woman. It’s a big, bruiser that’s ready to devour any highway you put it on.
The sheer size, stance and appearance of the Road Glide is both modern with its six-speed transmission and classic with its six-gallon tear drop tank. It shifts well with a kick from your boot heel and has a range that’s well over 200 miles.
The redesigned, frame mounted, fairing shields riders from wind like a coat of medieval armor. Airflow can be controlled with a push of a large button through a narrow mail slot on the top of the dash, which comes in handy when Great Plains wind gusts push you sideways on the Interstate.
This 849-pound, iron shark can take you to places you’ve never been and will give you excuses to find the long way home. It’s an absolute blast to ride and you will feel like you have been fired out of a giant cannon with every flick of the throttle.
The 2015 version looks as good as it handles and the Amber Whiskey metallic paint helps it stand apart from the crowd. Way, way apart. The sculpted saddle is completely comfortable after days of riding and there’s also plenty of storage space in the hard, lockable saddlebags.
The engine and exhaust are loud enough to part traffic, but the loud ass horn will let people know to stay the hell out of your way.
The touch screen infotainment and GPS system works well even with riding gloves on. Plus, there’s an UBS connector for your phone in a storage compartment that’s located beneath the booming stereo and speakers. A phone charger should be standard on all new motorcycles.
The Road Glide is great for anyone who enjoys riding across the country, up and down the East or West coasts or just across town as a daily commuter.
If you are an experienced rider looking for a solid touring/muscle bike, then check out the Road Glide from Harley-Davidson. It’s the real deal.
