LN Engineering’s ‘Focus On’ series is for the garage mechanic looking to take the next step in mastering Porsche maintenance.

Porsche’s M9X engine has a reputation for its IMS bearings, but it soon could have a reputation for being one of the easiest Porsche motors to service. For those of us that spin our own wrenches, there’s now a new resource for this engine. LN Engineering has a new DVD set called “Focus On: M9X Engine Assembly,” which covers literally everything you need to know about that engine line.

The whole kit is put together by Jake Raby, a renowned Porsche expert. Raby’s expertise includes the IMS Retrofit and IMS Solution replacement bearings for the M96 and M97 engines. The Focus On series discusses the 3 and 5 chain M9X engines in complete detail, well beyond the IMS, however.  LN Engineering states the series has broad appeal. “Regardless if you’re a professional, DIY-er, or enthusiast, this series will teach you step-by-step how to build an M9X engine from scratch to long block form.”

In DVD form, this 20 chapter set includes over 15 hours of content, which will help you take a fully disassembled engine and turn it into a long block.  If you want even more information on these engines, LN Engineering has a 996 torque book, and a 997 torque book. Every fastener, and its specifications, is covered. For those of us with both generation of 911’s in our garage, they are offered in a pair, too. Each book also covers its 986 and 987 variants as well.

As we see it, you might not even need to own a Porsche in order to benefit from these books. We have felt the 996 has been an incredible bang-for-buck performer. The engine has caused more than a few would-be owners to hesitate on a purchase, however. With LN Engineering’s know-how at your disposal, what was once intimidating can be easily tackled.

Just remember, Raby’s experience is far deeper than this M9X engine assembly series. He is the founder and owner of Flat 6 Innovations, Raby Engine Development, Raby Aircooled Technology, and The Knowledge Gruppe. You are in very good hands under his guidance.
