After a Three-Game Hiatus, Porsche Returns to Forza
The year was 2012, and Forza Motorsports fans the world over had been enjoying the use of various automobiles from the Porsche stable since the franchise hit the Xbox 360 with Forza Motorsport 2. But with the latest generation of consoles and games, the Porsche brand disappeared from the roster.
You see, competing game maker Electronic Arts owns the rights to the Porsche brand in digital gaming, and they can make things difficult when it comes to getting the legendary crest in any game that doesn’t start with “Need for Speed.” Thankfully it seems that Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios have managed to make a deal with EA, and Porsche is officially returning to Forza.
The first game to get the Porsche treatment is Forza Horizon 2. With the $10 Forza Horizon 2 Porsche Expansion, players will get access to 10 cars from the brand’s legendary history. From the old 914-6 all the way up to the new 918 supercar, there is something for everyone. They even found room to include the 944 Turbo the 959, and my personal favorite the 1982 911 Turbo 3.3, complete with whale tail. The full list of cars, in order of year, is as follows:
- 1970 Porsche 914/6
- 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3
- 1987 Porsche 959
- 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo
- 2003 Porsche Carrera GT
- 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (997)
- 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S
- 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder
- 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
- 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS
