Tons of Pics From Concorso Ferrari 2013
The weather was So-Cal perfect for this year’s Concorso Ferrari, and around 130 examples of Enzo’s Cavallinos lined Colorado street in Pasadena on Sunday. Enzo Ferrari loved his racing machines so much he couldn’t even bear going to the track, preferring to wait in his office at Modena for the results to be relayed by telephone. But he famously never cared much for his road cars. Customer cars were only produced to fund the racing program, nothing more.
Looking at the glorious creations in the pictures below, you’d never know that.
There weren’t any F12 Berlinettas in attendance, but the event offered an chance to see some of Modena’s rarest machines up close. The Enzo above is painted in the rare Rosso Dino hue, and was parked just down the street from the F1 car Michael Schumacher drove to the championship in 2001. Now, lots of 6Speed members are all about the latest and greatest. But the vintage iron is truly tells the story of a man who was untrained as a designer or engineer—who was deemed unfit to fix trucks while serving in the Army!—yet managed to build an empire amid the economic wreckage of post-war Italy, and become an icon in the world of motorsport.
Of the cars on display, Phil Hill’s personal 1953 250 MM—for Mille Miglia, the  legendary Italian endurance race—was my personal favorite. Though it boasts none of the creature comforts you’ll find in a modern car—or a roof—it looked absolutely stunning. If I had the money, I’d use it as my daily driver. Enjoy the pics.
