Porsche 964 911 as Mirage in Transformers Rise of the beasts trailer

Legendary 964 911 in the trailer of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts brings sweet justice to Porsche and Transformers franchise crossover fans.

If you’re a long-time Transformers fan, you’ll likely know that the first generation of Transformers (G1) featured a staple of Porsche history in its lineup. The character Jazz in car form is a Porsche 935. If that’s not cool enough, throw in the fact that the car he dons wears the iconic Martini Racing livery, and you’ve got yourself a winner. However, there was a massive misstep in the eyes of Porsche and Transformers alike back in 2006. When the character Jazz made his debut in Michael Bay’s Transformers: The GameĀ coming in car form as a Pontiac Solstice. If you’re curious as to why, we have no answer.. However, 16 years later, we finally have some justice.

No, Jazz is not returning as a proper Porsche 935 Turbo. However, Carscoops brought to our attention that Porsche fans can take solace (“Solstice?””) in the fact that a Porsche is indeed coming to the newest iteration of the movie franchise. In this particular case, it is another classic Transformers character with the added bonus of a modern Saturday Night Live legend voicing him.

Welcome Back, Mirage

Instead of Jazz (who was egregiously a Pontiac Solstice in the 2007 Transformers film) the character taking the Porsche throne is Mirage. According to Transformerland, Mirage is a G1 character and originally came in the form of a Ligier JS11 Formula One race car. That’s cool and all, but we think the Porsche 964 angle is a bit cooler. Of course, we may be a bit biased, but we’ll leave that to you to decide.

In the trailer, Mirage transforms from the gorgeous silver Porsche 964 911 Turbo into his full-form Autobot self as the robot-ally hero for this movie, Noah (portrayed by Anthony Ramos), calmly and swiftly steps out of the vehicle. Ramos isn’t the only heavy-hitter star in the cast lineup for the new flick, either. Mirage’s voice comes courtesy of modern SNL legend and talk-of-the-big-apple Pete Davidson. In addition, voice acting legend John DiMaggio, Sons of Anarchy star Ron Perlman, and comedian Liza Koshy also appear in the star-studded roster.

So, while this addition of Mirage doesn’t entirely heal our hearts in terms of substituting a 935 for a Pontiac Solstice, we are willing to forgive and forget for including this 964. One thing is for sure: some folks that might not have had any interest in seeing this new movie may do so just for the sake of them including a 911!
