Turn The Volume Up For This Porsche Carrera S!

The new Carrera S departs from the long held standard of a naturally aspirated flat-six engine. The addition of two turbos has been welcomed by most, controversial to some, and analyzed by all. So, short of putting you directly in the car, we now have this lovely video for you to at least take part in the conversation of exhaust tones.

The noise is admittedly more muted, due in no doubt to the natural muffling effect of the turbos. The exhaust crackles that occur during throttle lift are also quite nice, but that manic howl from the N/A units is no longer there. I’ll admit I would begin to miss the manic rush the engine produces as the needle makes best friends with the red area of the tachometer.

What isn’t missing is performance. In every measurable test, the new Carrera S is measurably faster than it’s non-boosted older brother. And by decent margins as well. That measure is not only in terms of performance, but increasing demands on engines to be efficient. Give and take, I suppose.
