What is it really like to drive three of the fastest cars you can buy off the showroom floor?

Universal praise is one of the attributes that you can slap on the Porsche GT3 RS. Even if you think the engine is in the wrong place, there’s simply no argument that holds water in terms of performance. American manufacturers have thrown their might against Porsche’s fastest 911, and now Dodge’s Viper ACR and Ford’s GT350R are ready to take the fight as serious rivals.

As good as the Viper ACR is, one thing that always holds it back is how accessible the performance levels are. Cornering capabilities are extraordinary, but it’s not always an easy task to get there. As a road car, there’s simply too many compromises you’ll have to put up with. Drivers with high skill level will be drawn to taming this beast.

Ford’s GT350R is a bit of an interesting fit into this group test, because it doesn’t have extreme aero, but on the plus side, it’s the least expensive of the three. Flat-plane crank V8 technology and 8,000+RPM redline is its party piece, making noises that will set your senses ablaze. Consequently, it is also heaviest out of the three, and pays the price on track. It makes for a better GT car though.

Ultimately, the GT3 RS wins this shootout, with speed on track, and comfort on the road. It may be the most expensive, but it gives you everything you could want out of a speed machine.
