VIDEO: Aston Martin Vulcan Takes On COTA
Aston Martin’s new purpose-built track day toy, the Vulcan, takes on COTA.
Circuit of the Americas (COTA), is America’s home of the F1 Grand Prix. Ten minutes of pure sound around Circuit of the Americas. In simple terms, that’s how to describe this video. However, if one were to look a bit deeper, we’d see what could be a battle for the ages. Lap times are increasingly hurled around for marketing purposes, and the Vulcan, during this data-testing run managed a 2:08. Compared to a production car, the NIO EP9, it’s 4 seconds a lap quicker and with new tires and a setup specific to COTA, a 2:03 could very well be possible. Mind you, the 2:00 mark at COTA carries the same significance as the 7 minute mark does at the Green Hell.
Aston Martin’s Vulcan is part of a new crop of track-only cars similar to those offered by Ferrari and Pagani, except Aston Martin begrudgingly believes the engine belongs in front of the driver. Powered by a 7.0 liter V12 sourced from Aston Martin Racing’s GT3 efforts, the Vulcan is probably the most old-school track-only car currently on the market.
You still can’t take one out on the street but at least you’ll rest easy knowing you can blow the doors off the guy who shows up in a 918 or a P1. Or, if you’re still learning the circuit and don’t want to spin at every corner, the Vulcan’s adjustable ECU can change power output based on what you’re comfortable using. We won’t tell anyone if you dial it back, we promise.
