Video: Six Porsche 918 Spyders Mobbin’ Deep in Monaco

The Porsche 918 Spyder is getting ready for its official introduction at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

In the video below, YouTuber Marchettino had a chance encounter with not one, not three, but six 918 Spyder prototypes in Monaco. Talk about luck.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is the next generation of hypercar with its plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mounted amidships is a 4.6-liter V8 producing 608 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Supporting the ICE are electric motors mounted at the front and rear axle. The electric motor at the front has a nominal output of 129 hp; output at the rear is 156 hp. Mix all that gas and plug-in electric motivation, and you get a grand total of 887 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

All that power translates into very little time, as in 2.8 seconds to 60 mph, and 23 seconds to 186 mph. It will top out at 211, and when running solely on electrons it will do 93 mph, but you’ll have to go slower than that if you want to get the maximum range of 18 miles in electric-only mode. Conservative driving in the 918 Spyder’s hybrid mode can get you 71.2 mpg.

You know you’re living in the future when you can get over 70 mpg in a hypercar. That mpg figure almost makes the $845,000 price sound like a bargain for the 918 Spyder.
