Want an i8 with a V8? Gabura Racing Technologies Building 4.4-liter V8 Swap

The i8, it’s the electric sports car from BMW that causes people to turn heads without making a sound. It’s an homage to the M1 in shape and nearly in exclusivity without needing as much fuel. Yet, there are people who still want more, who want more speed and lighter weight.

Gabura Racing Technologies is just such a company and they plan to take the i8 to a level that BMW never dreamed by dropping in an Alpina 4.4-liter V8 under the hood.

It’s probably an interesting idea and certainly one many were curious about. What could be done to the i8 to really make it a proper supercar? GRT unveiled their idea at the 2015 Porfessional Motorsport World (PMW) Expo and it’s really just setting off all the right buttons.

Make hippies mad while adding an 800-horsepower V8 to a relatively green car. Yes, the GRT i8’s engine will have 200-horsepower more than the M6 they are getting it out of. So, 800-horsepower in a car that will probably weigh less than 3400-pounds – we can’t wait to see it done!
