Watch Fifth Gear Flog Super Convertibles from Porsche and Aston Martin
What happens when you get the fastest convertible 911 you can buy, and you race it against the fastest convertible that Aston Martin currently offers? I like to think it will result in a magical explosion of awesome, but apparently you also get a Fifth Gear Shootout. One of my favorite feminine petrolheads, Vicki Butler-Henderson is steering this ship as we look at two of the fastest drop-tops money can buy.
From the beginning things look like a cakewalk for the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet simply because it will hit 60 mph almost a second quicker than the V12 Vantage S Roadster, but the Vantage bests the 911 with a top speed of more than 200 mph. Its AWD versus RWD, tech versus grunt, and all those other classic comparisons we love to make, and the video is nothing short of glorious.
Vicki loves the PDK transmission and the balance of the 911, but she also appreciates the pure power and rawness that the Aston provides. Of course, in a Fifth Gear Shootout, it all comes down to lap times. The fastest car is the fastest, and there is no arguing beyond that. The battle is also closer than you might expect as well; the final times of the two cars are split by less than a quarter-second. The track is a bit damp, so in better conditions the gap may widen, but damn was it fun to watch.
