Watch the Toyota GR Supra, Porsche Cayman GTS & Lotus Emira Duke it Out

A Toyota GR Supra, a Porsche Cayman GTS, and a Lotus Emira walk into a bar…

At first mention, you might think Car Throttle would have a difficult time finding common ground between the Toyota GR Supra, Porsche Cayman GTS, and Lotus Emira. However, each of the thoroughbred sports car nameplates packs a high-powered six-cylinder mill connected to a manual gearbox.

For starters, the Toyota GR Supra makes its power courtesy of a turbocharged 3.0L B58 inline-six. On the other hand, the Porsche Cayman GTS and Lotus Emira boast a naturally aspirated flat-six and a supercharged Toyota V6, respectively. So, to test the three six-cylinder sports cars against each other, Matt and Alex subjected them to a slalom, hot lap, and drift challenge.

In the slalom, the Cayman GTS returned a 17.5-second result. In comparison, the front-engined Toyota GR Supra 3.0 spun its way through the course in 17.6 ticks. Surprisingly, the mid-engined, Toyota-powered Emira just edged out the Cayman GTS by 0.1 seconds. However, even with its victory, Matt and Alex said the Emira lacked the initial preciseness and flat cornering of the mid-engined Porsche.

In the hot lap challenge, Matt had an event of a lap, nearly turning the GR Supra into an off-roader. Still, he coaxed the Supra around in 55.7 seconds. The Emira came in at exactly the same time. However, the Cayman GTS managed to best the Supra and the Emira by a solid second. Unsurprisingly, the front-engine, rear-wheel drive (RWD) GR Supra was the most dramatic drifter in the mix.

Despite delightful driving dynamics, these sports car models are endangered species

Still, even with delightful six-cylinder soundtracks, each of these muscular sports cars is on the endangered species list. Well, at least in the UK, they are. The Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0L is getting pulled due to, of all things, cybersecurity regulations in Europe.

As for the Lotus Emira, would-be buyers will only be able to buy a four-cylinder AMG version in the UK soon. Odd, considering the Emira isn’t that seasoned of a sports car option. Finally, the six-cylinder GR Supra isn’t likely to continue selling in the UK, per Car Throttle.
