UPDATE: Porsche Cayman Spy Shots

Porsche Cayman Facelift 4a

It seems that Porsche has decided to facelift literally every single car in its lineup. First you had the 911, then the Cayenne, the Boxster, and finally its twin brother the Cayman. (See the latest photos in the gallery below.)

From these new spy shots, it definitely looks like Porsche is showing that it wants to have a 911-esque front fascia for pretty much its entire fleet.

You get the new DRLs, and a new set of headlights, as well as a retooled front grille. In all respects just a mild update as manufacturers do around the midpoint of the production cycle. Or is it? Mild updates aside, these spy shots have me much more intrigued at what you can just barely see through the front windshield.

Yep, that’s a roll cage. Now the presence of a cage doesn’t have to suggest anything, but there have been some rumors going around that Porsche is setting the Cayman up for something a bit more powerful and a bit more track focused.

And while this mule doesn’t have all the bits and bobs you would think a track car would, for instance carbon brakes and some aero bits, it could just be the test mule for the chassis setup.

Now take my prediction and views with a heaping grain of salt, this is just pure speculation people, but I haven’t seen that many other Porsche spy shots of “just” face lifted 911s that had a full cage in them.

It would definitely be interesting if Porsche came out with a Cayman GT3 or something along those lines. With so much negativity towards the new 911, and how everyone has been saying the Cayman is the real successor, wouldn’t it be in Porsche’s interest to make a hot version?

What do you all think, do you think I’m right and they are testing something special, or is this just a facelift?
