While today’s Ferrari rocket ships may seem futuristic, they ain’t got nothing on the 2040 models featured in Ferrari’s Top Design School Challenge.

The Challenge brings together top design schools from around the world and invites them to imagine the Ferrari as a 2040 model. Out of 50 schools, four made it to the finals, and each of them submitted three designs.

The jury consists of a cavalcade of personalities and professions, including Paolo Pininfarina, Sebastian Vettel, and Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason. So that kind of rocks.

The 2040 Manifesto that you see above took home this year’s “Gran Premio Assoluto” overall prize. The car was designed by six students from the ISD-Rubika at Valenciennes. Here’s why the design won, according to the Ferrari press release:

The jury was won over by the completeness of the Manifesto design as well as the students’ ability to create a coherent overall vision of the car spanning its exterior, cabin and running gear. The spectacular door opening mechanism also highlights the evolution of the interior functions, using future-forward technologies. The exterior is instantly recognizable despite the fact that it incorporates certain orthodox features.

The jury also recognized the 2040 FL designed Roman Egorov, the only concept to focus on the interior. Also, the Premio Speciale award was decided online and given to the 2040 de Esfera, the work of three students from Hongkik University in Seoul, which won the 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest.

So, which of these future Ferraris would you most like to see in 2040?
