Yamaha Mixes Modern and Retro with New Faster Sons Line
Yamaha’s Yard Built project created a series of bikes that brought the wild and exciting world of retro rebuilds to a more modern market. By taking some of the more retro-styled bikes and giving them the right touches, they created a line of motorcycles that any classic enthusiast would drool over.
But now Yamaha is moving things into stage two with the new Faster Sons range. Rather than taking classically styled bikes like the SR400, Yamaha is pulling the same trick with more modern bikes. The first machine to go under the knife is the MT-07 (FZ-07 for those of us in the States). I don’t think there is a soul in the world that would call that 700cc hooligan retro in any way.
But look what they did to it!
The bike is styled after planes from WWII, and the idea is to bring new riders into the vintage fold. By taking a modern bike and wrapping it into a more vintage aesthetic, Yamaha hopes to bridge the two universes. It’s just like a resto-mod car; take a classic American machine and cram it full of the best modern running gear to create a car that has the best design and the best equipment.
If there was ever a reason to have faith in humanity, this might be it.
To celebrate the launch, Yamaha has released the first video in a series about the bike that takes a look at its inspiration, and features a few shots of the new bike. It is a bit over dramatic in that classic Hollywood sense, but it’s beautiful to watch. Sit back and enjoy the next 2 minutes.
