The Yamaha Sports Ride Tokyo Concept is Pretty Sexy

Remember Yamaha’s MOTIV concept car from the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show? You know, the little electric smart car-lookin’ thing? Yeah, the concept Yamaha just released at this year’s show is nothing like that. Well, at least not in looks, shape, or purpose.

This is the Sports Ride, the result of  the premise of a car that’s as close to the feeling of riding a motorcycle as possible. Which is weird, considering, aside from the windows, it’s not open-air at all. That’s probably why the windshield bleeds all the way through the roof, though.

The two-seater coupe is quite tiny. It’s 153.5 inches long, 67.7 inches wide, and 46 inches high. For reference, that’s almost the exact size of the new Mazda Miata, but about two inches lower. Yamaha didn’t release any engine or power specifications, but with a vehicle that weighs 1,653.5 lbs, it wouldn’t take much to make this thing an absolute blast to drive.

The one way that it is similar to the MOTIV city car is that it was designed with former McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray’s iStream process in mind. In the words of Yamaha, iStream is “a process developed to produce lightweight, high-rigidity vehicle structures rooted in Formula One technology.”

Light. Attractive. High-tech. Build this thing, Yamaha.

Before I leave, I’m just going to drop off one more thing. Just sayin’:
