My 996tt Protomotive 650 vs. 997tt AWE 750

A local buddy who this year has gone from a Imagine Auto 690 Giac tune with headers, intercoolers and when I got my Proto650 put on my 996tt he could not catch me on highway pulls in 2nd or 3rd till 145. Only a few days went buy and I got the call from him saying I'm going to step my game up with the AWE 700/750 package. He said he did not want to have to run race gas to reach high hp so this kit would allow 93 fuel and 700 and race gas 750. His IA kit allowed 690 on race gas. Naturally he was not going to be satisfied with out handing me my butt. I have to admit I was a bit worried. Work was done and now he has AWE ic's,headers, tune, modified turbo's. We went to the track and I did a 11.92@125 and he did a 11.94@113. I had done a 11.6@124 when he had the IA 690 tune. A problem with a hose so the competition had to wait. Dealer tightened a loose hose on his throttle body so Sunday we went to MX and both with race fuel Me in hi-boost and him in his pump fuel mode of 700. 3 times in a row 3rd gear pulls I jump at least one car length and he cant catch me. Finally the moment I have been worried about he goes into his race fuel file 750hp, again 3rd gear and we both start pulling pretty even but to my suprise my car starts pulling away from him. Not as violently as before but still pulling away. What a feeling! He asks me what bar does the car go to, I tell him 1.3 and holds forever. He wants us to find a all wheel dyno locally so I guess that's the next step. I am just so happy about the wealth of knowledge here b/c I was about to go elswhere and get a totally different kit but for me, I think I got extreme value for what I spent. Next step will be the fuel system and get to PE700. I can't imagine what that will feel like as my car already pulls so hard in every gear and all the way to redline.

LOL you just made my day....

people dont believe the potent protomotive simple K24/18g set up....

Port your headers, put some better ICs.... BMC filter... and call it a day....

If your going to do a full set up Dont keep the 18gs... for a minimal amount step her up to a 20g.. you will now be in a low 10 sec car...
Congrats...
markski

That's a great story, Tom!!! I'm happy that you're still enjoying your car (and getting some kills, too!!!).

I was nervous to recommend the kit to you, because I was afraid you wouldn't like it for some reason, but I'm glad that isn't the case. I knew if it performed like mine, there wasn't much not to like.

Enjoy it in good health!!!!

Although a litttle hard to follow, your story is a great one.
You were racing someone with a 997 turbo both times and the first time
it had a GIAC/IA tune of some kind and then he went to a Full AWE 700/750 package?
How in the hell do you go 145 mph in third gear??
Did he have race gas to go with his "750 file"?
Is his car a tippy or a 6-speed?

Great story...I was also taking down GT750's with my PE650 and people couldn't beleive it. But I would advise you to take Markski's advice. Put on a better set of IC's and call it a day. You will not see a great improvement going to PE700 and you will spend about the same as you did for the 650 kit. If you want a noticeable gain you will have to step up to GT30's and get your wallet ready. My advice.... get the IC's and a 55gal. drum of 104 and have fun.

^^^ good advice from Raudel for the price differential.

It all depends on the type of events you plan on running

Good kill!!

The funny thing is..The comps size on those upgraded VTG's still smaller than 18's

Todd K told me that the size of the comp of upgarded VTG's is same 16g comp.

Is that 997tt tip or 6speed tranny?
