Can 1973 and under be updated?
Ive found a great deal on a 1970 911 and before i go purchase it i would like to know can it be updated to the newer(964/993) body stlyes like the 1974 and up models can. Im pretty sure ive seen this done before but i just wanted to check before i buy this car, i would think that the only major difference is the front fenders with the grills and lights? Any info shed on this would be great as i would like to buy my first porsche.

You could put a space shuttle body on one if you throw enough $ at it. I personally would not ruin an early 911 like that. There are plenty of 74 and older cars out there for little $.

It is very different from 964 or 993.
What is its designation? Is it original or modified in some ways. Best if you drive it. Drive a few others like an SC, 3.2 or newer. If you like the 70, it may be a nice car as is. To do what you mention has already been done to many others and you can easily find one.

another thought.... listen to what everyone is saying. If your looking at an older Porsche, imho, why bother with the mods you speak of? I'd want to be sure the engine and running gear are in good shape before committing to the car. are you going to work on it? is it carb'd or injected? If it's got the Weber's it will take some effort to maintain. I'd look for the SC's with cis injection. oh, re the SC's, the 3.2's are great, yes, but the 3.0 is maybe the best Porsche engine ever. good luck, and whatever you decide to do it sure will be a lot of fun for you. cheers!

Well the car is going to be a race car project for me, it currently does not have a engine or transmission in it so my plan was to completely strip it down build a cage for it, update the suspension and then figure out what engine and trans to put in it(3.6 maybe). I just started my own fabrication business and have alot of porsche specific work experience from a past job so this is to become basically a showcase of what i am capable of building plus it will be a project i am really interested in. I am going to look at it tomorrow morning to see what condition it is in but from the pictures it doesnt look too bad, i wlll keep you guys posted, thanks for the replies

[quote=iJeremy;2340592]Not to highjack the thread but... Jon, when did you sell the 79; SC?! Last I knew you were looking for the smog equippment for it...[/quote
Hi, Jeremy. Yes, sold the SC. I found a C4S that looked great, and couldn't keep both for daily use. The SC found a good home nearby. New owner is running turbo twists, and the car still looks real good and runs strong. finally found a smog pump in Arizona. Thanks for asking...cheers, jl

Mod huh. Ok. I would keep it long nose. But that is me because here in Florida the 2.0s rock in very exciting races. Couple classes run enduros. Few cars have the motors built that are second to none. So the early cars. Lots of them around Florida tracks several fast ones.
Here, often same builders and owners/builders have really fast 964/993 with reappearance every year or so. Yes 3.6 long hood will be can can. Ok well as you may know, the rear torsion bar area with adjustable spring plates and torsion bar center area cut for (prepped, LSD) G50/ coil springs with aero can put you up with fast cars. That is cool and with metal magic you may have a light weight car bring you enjoyment.
Good luck with the build.
