Air Cooled

I'll tell this one last time......buy the car for it's condition not any mechanical specification like a 915 ('84thru"86) or G-50('87-'89). I am curious how many of the people who say '87 to '89 have actually driven a 3.2 with a well-cared for 915 transmission. Contrary to popular belief, the G-50 gearbox is more expensive to fix than a 915. Go ask any mechanic who knows air-cooled 911's. I love both gearboxes BTW. The G-50 is much more modern feel though.

Agreed... get the Pete Zimmermann book "The Used 911 Story". Great read regarding the 911. Zimmermann also has a tutorial on how to rebuild the 915 gearbox at his Red Line Technik site. http://porsche.wikidot.com/systemage-tags/tag/915
It's a great read also on the inner-workings of the 915 that he has written.
Good luck... great cars and you will enjoy them.

what to me is very important in Florida, a complete Griffiths A/C upgrade. Ironically, I find driving it more of an event than my 2006 X51 Carrera S. Make sure to do a very, very thorough PPI and you won't regret getting one; running costs are very affordable and depreciation is nill.[/quote]
i agree ,i have a 86 and 06 and i tend to enjoy and use more the 86
and of course the newer one is a lot more comfortable but i smile everytime i am in the 86.
