Needing VIN help for a 1976 911S

Hi,

Sorry for my noob intrusion in advance, but I'm knew to Porsches and trying to find the month of manufacture for a 1976 911S I'm thinking about purchasing to bring with me to Japan.

I searched both here and a few other Porsche forums without any real luck as most VIN decoders involve the 17 digit VIN, not the 10 digit that the 1979 and earlier cars have. The 17 digit plates have a month/year stamp at the top right, but I'm at a loss as to how to determine the month of manufacture for a car with a 10 digit VIN unless it is displayed elsewhere.

I know my old Datsuns had month/year stamps, so it's not a 10 digit VIN thing.

Thanks in advance!

Why do you need the month?

Do you have a J series (8/75 to 7/76) 911S or a K series (8/76 to 7/77)?

It's a J? A coupe? Then it's 9116310001-9116311576? That's 49 State car. It should have engine 64660001-6462305. It'll have a 5 blade fan.

You are aware of the 1975-1976 911 engine problems? They are the cheapest 911 for a reason.

I'm not a Porsche guy, so no I'm not aware of the engine problems that plague those years.

The month of manufacture is important because cars older than 4/76 are not required to be emissions tested in Japan (a 200,000 yen affair) and my travel office is restricting the shipment of any vehicle to cars that meet this criteria.

It's most certainly a J series as the owner says it was delivered in July 76. It's an original California car with a sunroof with 11 blade fan.
