930 turbo question

First off I must admit my knowledge of 930's is pretty minimal at this point. Yesterday I saw a very nice 1979 930 turbo and it got me thinking. Why are earlier 930 Turbos with the 3 liter engine often worth considerably more than 930 turbos with the the 3.3 liter engine and more horsepower? Is this simply because there were only a minimal amount built in 75-77? Is the driving experience as enjoyable for the more expensive but more rare 3 liter car versus the 3.3. Hypothetically, if you were interested in a 930 turbo and the values were the same for the 3 liter or 3.3 liter which one would you choose.

Can some one give me a ballpark price for a clean, porsche authentic certified original 78-79 930 turbo with between 40-60k miles? Just a ballpark. Prices seem to vary greatly.
