Realistic worst case scenario for this Japan 911?
Thinking more seriously about buying a 2000ish 911. I have been owning, and doing countless DIY's and regular maintenance on 3 different saabs of mine since 2001, and I am still have my 2003 on the road. So I am not afraid of problems and cost of parts etc.

There are some obvious problems with this year of car which you can never say wouldnt happen. But considering the mileage and the reputation of used cars from Japan as being the best in the world, what is the highest risk for this a 100000km 911? I would say we could probably assume 80% chance it has been well maintained. Cracked cylinder head would be bad news, I have read about that here and there on this model, but I am not sure where about in the mileage trajectory this becomes of heightened concern.
I have ordered a car from Japan before (2001 Rav 4 4wd manual low kms), and while it took forever, I had 0 problems with it. Ran perfect. (But of course it did, because Toyota)
Also, I think this is a 1999? Thought the 1998's were different

uhhh It's a Porsche?
Honestly, when I think about Porsche 911, this is what comes to mind. Not sure why this is ugly, it looks pretty much like every other 911. This is what they have looked like when I started getting interested in cars.
This is interesting, I am realizing that people hate these for some reason, but its still a freaking Porsche 911 lol. Anything before and after is like 2-3x more for the same car. But its your money.
I'm buying to drive the heck out of it, not garage keep it.

I don't hate it I have owned 4 or 5 996's, but why in the world would you buy it from Japan and not find one locally where you know what you are getting. There might be more things involved like lights or emissions that depending on where you live might prevent you from registering it. I sold a 964 Speedster to a guy in Germany and he had to change out the lights and other things before he could even drive it.
There are some red flags, like the battery cover has been removed, you will get a car with a dead battery. The rear spoiler is extended, the microswitches are a pain and that might be why it is up and not down. There is no cassette radio as the head unit is gone and there seems to be a double din Nav/Radio unit, will it work in the USA? 996's with low miles as this one are more prone to IMS/RMS problems, There are lots of other things like the rear lights tab breaking and they come loose, coolent tank, water pump etc. No mention of books or records or keys.
Plus: Please note that only 25-year old or older cars are legal for import into the USA as they are exempted from EPA and DOT Standards. Read more about importing used cars from Japan to USA: My math skills seem week today but this car would not be exempt from DOT and EPA standards and you would have to update the car to get it in and on the road.

In Canada, this is 35k CAD with the good color combo and low ish KM's . Tan leather always seems to go for more. 27K for similar car with more KM's and no color choice. This blue one would be 17,300 CAD pick up in Vancouver.

Thought you were in the USA, you can find one here and have it shipped to Canada, remember the parts and labor are not cheap. I guess the nice part is that you could always part it out if something catastrophic happens.
