man, that brings back memories of my complete repaint, where every panel came off the car, was stripped down to the factory prep, and then re-shot off the car, re-assembled, and shot again

nothing - it was a concourse winner when i got it - but, the original paint has orange peel - i wanted it smooth - also, it had enough pits and such, and had seen enough rework that i wanted a perfect paint job - i concoursed it for a while, but got bored with that
i'll probably be doing it all over again in a year or so - paint over paint is bad, so i'll strip it again before i go forward

I still have a real soft spot for the 968, and it's becomming really hard to find a nice one. My brother looked for one for over a year, and we couldn't find a good one, so he ended up getting a Boxster S.

Didn't you have two accidents with the car-one on the highway, and another when parked and someone in a truck backed into the car and damaged the hood? I thought that was the reason for at least one of the repaints.

not exactly - as i said, it had seen rework
my car was one of those that had rework done to it before it even got to the dealer - this apparantly happens a LOT - they don't have to report it either, because the car has not been delivered to the dealer - nearly half of my car had been re-shot before it got there
by the time i got the car, the previous owner had already re-shot the front bumper cover
after i got it, i got rear-ended once by a 75 year old preacher from georgia who was on his cell phone - this required a bumper cover job - while i was at it i re-shot the rockers
then i got backed over, requiring a buffing of the hood
then when i got backed over again while parked i opted to re-shoot the entire car, stripping it down entirely
the primary reason for doing the job the way i did was to get rid of the unsatisfactory factory paint - the rework looked better than the factory paint, and with as much having been done after the fact, plus the pits and chips from driving it, i wanted it redone, and this time done better
then 3 weeks after the paint job, i got bumped in the left front fender by a 17 year old kid, requiring a new fender
