944 Cabriolet or 968 Cabriolet
Sorry,
For some reason my original message was cut short.
Like everyone else I love cars and I want to try new cars all the time. I was recently at several dealerships asking about trade in value. And they valued the 944 S2 Cab & 968 Cab at the same price. When asking private sellers if they wanted to trade, they preferred the 944 S2 Cab over the 968 Cab.
The 944 S2 Cabriolet had a huge release when it came out, when the 968 rolled out people really didn't care at the time and thus not too many people know about this car. Is my assesment correct? Does anyone else having anything to add?

given that they didn't make may 968s period, it's not too surprising - the car just never caught on
the high price tag of the 968 cab didn't help the demise of the car either
but the ratio of cabs to hardtops is actually very good, and about the same as the 944S2 ratio (roughly 50/50 net)
but i have 2 of them, and love them both, and am about to buy a third

I was wondering why no one was replying to my post, my message was cut short and didn't make sense. I edited so you guys can give me some feedback.
I know what you mean about these cars Flash, I wouldn't mind picking up a coupe, but I dont' think my wife will let me have another one

lol - i understand that one - mine is not all that happy about me wanting a third (for a race car)
as for value or preference, that is pretty subjective - all of the blue books still list the 968 cab higher than the S2cab, but the pricing is all over the map
personally i like the front end of the S2 better (as long as the lights are down), but i like the rear of the 968 better
i also like the powerband of the 968 better, as well as the 6 speed
the S2 is easier to maintain though, and a lot more parts available, so a mixed bag of nuts whichever way you go

My wife just bought me a '95 968 cab for Father's Day. It's terrific, I have owed a '87 944 and an number of 911's. I have a '08 turbo now but it's this 968 that makes me smile the most. My suggestion is to get the 968 over the 944.

Congratulations on your new ride. Actually my whole thread was why some people prefer the 944 S2 Cabriolet over the 968 Cabriolet. I actually own both, both of them are great to drive. Even though they are related they feel different. I like the roadster, nimble feel of the cars. There are actually smaller than a Boxster. I know what you mean about putting a smile on your face, my last 911 was a 993 Turbo, and I enjoy driving my 944/968 Cab more. The new Porsches are nice, but I prefer the 90's and earlier Porsches better.
Flash, I think the 944 S2 and 968 Front ends look good. I do like the rear end of the 968 better, but with the trunk spoiler on my 944 I like the looks of the 944 better. From the side view I like the 944 better, I like the tighter/compact look.

yeah - i like different parts of each car
i am undecided on the trunk spoiler - i like some parts of it, but not others - it dates the car, but probably functions - it also gives you something to grab onto to open and close
i've been waffling for 7 years now on that - i'll probably buy one, stick it in the attic, and waffle for another 7

Let me post up a pic of the car with the spoiler and see if you like it or not. My wife wouldn't let me pick up another 968, but she let me pick up a 993 C2 6spd with LSD Slate Gray. Did your 968 come with LSD, My cab came with LSD. I know that's a rare option for our cars as well as the 964/993.

i know what the spoiler looks like - i just can't decide if i want one or not - i like the look of the car better without it, especially now that i deleted the 3rd brakelight, but the function advantage is still nagging at me
i added lsd a long time ago

the clutch is just about the only thing that is harder (maybe the headlights and the belt tensioner) - the rest is either less complicated and/or easier to source parts for, but primarily with more mechanics knowing more about the car than is the case with the 968, it makes the S2 easier to maintain overall - if you are relying on a shop, the S2 is by far easier to deal with
but i'd still take the 968
but i'd still take the 968

I love the 968 but never wind up driving it very much. I decide to sell it about once a year, but when I get it out of the garage, clean it up and drive it a little I decide I don't really need the money and put it up. I really need the garage space more than anything. If not for that I would never consider selling it.
