Thoughts: It is a total beast when supercharged! check out 928 Specialist's supercharger package for the 32v. https://www.928gt.com/default1.htm

Here are a couple of videos. The red one is an '89 GT making 540rwhp, and the black one is an '87 S4 A/T making 511rwhp. Both are stock except for the supercharger installations and cat bypass pipes.

I have driven one with a vortech and ridden in a twin screw. Different kinds of power, the twin screw is strong from low rpms and the vortech doesn't get going till about 4k rpm or so.
With a 5 speed you could go either way, but in an a/t the twin screw would be a better choice.
I only know of sc'ed 928s that still have problems to work out, but I'm sure there are many that are completely de-bugged.

The twin screw does make more boost down low, but more boost isn't necessarily more power. Boost is just a measure of pressure in the intake. It's an indicator of how backed up the air is, not how much air is actually getting into the cylinders. A fair number of people seem to be underestimating the value of the stock Porsche intake manifold that's retained with the centrifugal, as compared to the manifolds that have been used with the twin screw setups.

My biggest point is that the people I know with sc set ups are constantly tuning and are not "there" yet. However I do have 100% belief that if you bring your S4+ car to Murph and do the install there with sharktuner tuning the outcome will be good. He has the knowledge and experience with his own set up to dial it in.
The other twin screw from 928 Specialists I don't have as much info on, but they use the sharktuner also and are working all the bugs out.
Personally, I am not so interested in a sc for my car because of the reality of keeping a 20 year old 928 at 100% running condition. If these were newer, easier cars I would think differently. I have been more than happy to have a reliable S4 5 speed that runs the way it was intended. When mechanically restored, there is a lot of performance there.
My 2 cents.

Tim Murphy is also developing a stage 3 kit, to be sold through 928motorsports, for production which will put out 500+rwhp. It is suppose to incorporate intercooling, Shark Tuning chip, 42lb ford injectors. And he may develop a similar kit for 85-86 32V. This is what I'm waiting for plus adding an X-pipe, true dual exhaust w/ RMB and hi-flow cats from 928motorsports.
