1988 Turbo Targa 930
My car has 55,000 miles on it and is pristine. I want to keep it stock, but need to boost the power. Can someone advise me what the best things I can do, without breaking the bank?

If you want to do something that would give you more power without hurting you wallet, you should get a bigger turbo, change your intercooler and maybe your headers/exhaust. I have a turbo sitting in my garage that I just modified and completely rebuilt, but never had the time to put her on my car. If your interested in buying, let me know. You will definitely feel a difference in power. Other than that, your gonna have to modify your engine/tranny and that's going to cost you some big bucks. I did it, but I can tell you it was a tremendous difference.

I would talk to the guys at Kokeln Racing.
Having driven an '88 with their modifications, among others (approx. 450hp). I can say their "kit" is high quality, and it WORKS!

Pair their turbo setup, with their intercooler, and Fabspeed exhaust. That should get you right where you want to be, depending on how much $$$ is in your budget.

My father's 930 is equipped with a similar setup as mentioned above, making a claimed 450hp. I can say that it is not only grin inducing fast, but is still very liveable and manageable. IMO, the perfect balance. Post pics of your targa!

Hey Bob,
Step it up and throw on an exhaust. An exhaust is the gateway drug to the good stuff...
like bigger turbos and intercoolers, suspensions, wheels, tires, seats, valves, clutches...you know... the basics. step it up or go home!
Your old pal, Andy

Bob a stainless steel exhaust system with an air intake will relieve restriction and improve power while not breaking the bank. Our '87 Slantnose is making around 400RWP with a larger K27 turbo and Kokeln intercooler paired with our Maxflo exhaust system. This can be a bit expesive as you have to strengthen the motor to accompany the new power, but with just an exhaust system and intake, power will be around 306RWP and 320 ft-lbs of torque. Here is a dyno graph of our Slantnose with only our Maxflo sport headers, dual outlet muffler, and intake system. The sound is phenomenal and lag is dramatically decreased with quicker spooling of the turbo. Here is a link for the video demonstration of our performance package available for the 930.

You can get the same sized or slightly larger turbo with ceramic internals to spool faster (less lag and more power). Also, there is a simple spring to boost 1 bar vs. 0.8 bar.
