Thats a pretty broad question. It really depends on the condition of the engine. Did it have a catastrophic failure (missed shift, bearing failure, etc?) Also, it depends on the concentricity of the cyls themselves. If they are measured in 3 locations and it is still within std allowable dimensions and does not having any scoring, good crosshatch, the rebuild could be done with just a re-ring vs all new piston/cyl assys.

When we do complete rebuilds, we only do them with a case shave and alignbore to make certain that the case is perfectly true (removes minor warpage) and that you have perfect main bearing and IMS bearing surfaces. We also prefer to replace pistons and cyls with new but if the P/C's are i excellent shape, we will re-ring. ALWAYS do upgraded 993 or ARP head studs- thats critical

There are lots of little parts that add up- cam tower oil feed tubes and line plugs need replaced, cam chain guides and chains need replaced. Cam gears need inspection for wear, parallelity etc etc et-al-

There are ALWAYS lots of ancillary items that need replacing that vary from engine to engine like the plastic injection insulators (they warp and can have air leaks), crank vent hoses, idle air valve hoses, intake boot, ignition wires and so on.

Need someone experienced to do a basic inspection and compression and/or leakdown. Lots of extras can't be determined untill the engine is at least removed (like clutch condition) and disassembled.

If you need someone in your area i highly reccomend Tony Callas at Callas-Rennsport. They do factory level work and you can trust them.

Porsche tech...

whats the most expensive rebuild (parts and labour) that you have made for someone? I am curious of what the worst case scenario is.

I've seen....

993 turbo builds costing 40K +. Broad question I agree. It all comes down to "what is necessary" or what you do "while your at it" paying attention to things that are on their way to needing replacement will ensure that the engine has to be removed as few times as possible in the cars life. I say... If you are budgeting tightly then the cost of doing it is key. So do as much as you can afford to do so its done only once. If it costs a lot to do it once half assed. What makes you think you can afford to have to do it twice... I learned this the hard way I guess with my CNC machines. All the parts are either from Switzerland or Japan. Now I put it into play with every project. From My big block chevy truck to my 993 TT. But you should be able to get the jobs done for 10K or so if it has been even decently taken care of.

$40K-ish with standalone management options and the best of everything internally.

If you were asking based on a stock unit failure and rebuild to stock settings with no upgrades except case studs and new P&C's, High teens to low $20K-ish , depending on other ancillaries the unit may need (CIS injection management problems or similar, failed turbine, hoses, plug wires, upsell for powder-coating, clutch needs etc)

Hey Porsche Tech, I just joined to sell a cylindar head stud kit by ARP. I can't start a thread until I have been here 30 days or have 30 posts. Any idea on how much I should ask for this. I do not own a Porsche or know much about them. It was left in a friends garage that passed on. I have had it a couple of years and have no use for it. Thanks

part # 204-4206

EBS sells them for $565.00

I think you could probably sell them for $400 quickly if still in the box, all parts still included. Go join Pelican Parts and sell them there. They should sell pretty quick.
