My 944 Turbo S Story
Hey all,
I just wanted to share a personal experience with you about my old 1988.5 (944 Turbo S) S designation dropped in 1989 Turbo models
I took a flight over to Oregon Oregon, 20k miles, a man had it but never used it, his wife wanted it sold..I picked her up in Eugene, and was quickly amazed at the natural beauty of this place. I noticed a man with long hair in a white jumpsuit walking around. Passing thru the town i noticed there were 2 headshops on every block, women with mustaches and old men with hippie tripping shirts. I was in Scooby doo village..stuck in a timeless era of happy land.. it was great!. anyyywayys..
I pull up to the house to see this dirty unpolished 944 Turbo S parked on the side of the road.
Knowing my mechanic had warned that an unchanged timing belt in a 944 is a ticking bomb, i took her to the local car wash got her cleaned up and went on a 100mile test drive lol, off we went to the ocean front.. a quick stroll on the beach and where I almost caught frostbite on my toes from the ridiculous cold water..
Drove her back, thank the man for the car and his offer of wine and a hash pipe, lol, he even invited me out to some place called Snake River for a 4 day mind getaway. I was beyond belief, So loaded her on a truck and sent her back to PA. 20k 1988.5 Turbo S was sold to me for 18k. Awsome deal.. Black on tan, immaculate conditon.
That car was sweetheart. Its light weight body, sexy hips and curves, classic rokstar interior.. I was in heaven and i was 23. We drove everywhere, showed off to everyone, raced anyone who dared to test me. I had factory adjustable coilovers, street setup. I quote a popular Drag Racer "Kurt Brown -who said to me, there is still nothing ive ever driven that feels as good as driving my 944 turbo s does in the curves.." And so off to Watkins Glen, Beaver Run, Mid Ohio.. PCCA it was.. And It was good..
Needless to say at 23 i couldnt keep up the "poor mans porsche" bills. Being a bartender and in school, things could get a little tight esp. if you have to pay for constant maintenence like Rod Bearings, Timing Belts, Water Pumps, Vaccum Lines, turbo noises, and deal with all the amount of oil it dumped, 1 qt a week, i didnt really need an oil change did I? Yes i had one of the best specialized mechanics knows out there taking care of her, but even they knew I had trouble taking care of her..
So off to autotrader i went 1.5 years later, I sold her for 18k flat, same as i bought it for, with now 53k miles, i had a good 30k of love and she was my true and only.. Ive seen what the Modified 944 Turbo S can do, i just could never afford it. Having ridden in a few modified ones ill say this... its Scary and its Exotic esp on the streets.. Its a raw bulletproof hardcore feeling u cant describe, esp when laying rubber at 90mph. ohh that car.. that car
Thanks
Hope you enjoyed my little 944 Turbo S story.

was sold in 2003..
The guy who bought it from me was like 25, 3 months later i recieved an email from him stating he had damaged a quarter panel and needed proof of the cars value since insurance didnt believe the car was worth 18k since they didnt understand the turbo S rarity.
Last year i saw it for sale on Autotrader and wrote the seller, he wasnt to thrilled, it have over 60k miles he wanted 23k for it, and told me it was a money pit, apparently the guy who bought it from me did not maintain it well..
Oh well I still do miss her..
