i think this is an urban legend. gasoline is just as corrosive as alcohol, if not even more corrosive.

if 100% alcohol were that corrosive, they would not be sold in flimsy plastic bottles at the drug store for rubbing use.

It's true, but many fuel pump and fuel hose, are destroy with E85
I don't it's because the alcohol is corrosive, but the mix is corrosive, I think the chemical product to have a stabilized the combustion, they are corrosive.

I saw a test with diesel :

Normal diesel => no problem
Diesel + (with some additive to increase the combustion "Total excellium" => the part in rubber in the fuel pump will be attack by fuel.

So beware, E85 is no only alcohol + gas

It's in France, realized by Renault (car constructor) it was to compare two fuel pump (one of Bosch, and the other was build by an US manufacturer but I don't remember the name)

Sorry I don't have the link, but each Renault garage know this

well, diesel is different from gasoline, and 'some additive' can be anything (not alcohol) so i doubt that test applies to e85 fuel.

besides, there are already many 951 cars running e85 for a few years without problems on an all-stock fuel system.

You know you talk about a 951 It's a really good conception car, but all cars aren't in the same case.

When you say "additive can be anything (not alcohol) " it's true but don't forget E85 isn't 85% alcohol + 15% gas, they are many other additive be upgrade the octane rating,

So during my studies I saw the cyclohexane will be a fuel additive and is really corrosive, (not immediately but this liquid create small hole one the fuel hose.

For the fuel pump, there are two category

- Full metal pump
- with polymer membrane

The second one is really fragile

So if the 951 run perfectly with E85, there is no problem to use it
