Turbo Selections??

Has anyone used the Garrett dual ball bearing turbos on their C2 Turbos? I am considering the K27HF but the wouldn't the Garrett spool up alot sooner? Also all race cars use Garretts so it must be a good choice. Any experience or comments would be appriciated.

Secondly any experience with different cam set-ups? This is directed to all the guys that still has CIS systems. Thanks.

The best way to go would be Kevins K27HFS with a tial wastegate (no 1 bar springs!!!). As for the cams you could switch to the 964 NA cams which would allow you to realize the boost potential of that turbo. But with any CIS system, watch your AFR's. As for the Garrett turbos. They are liquid cooled and not best suited to an air cooled car.

I am switching my 965 to motronic and using a GT35R. As a CIS car is was running the above set-up.

Isn't the Gt35 a Garrett turbo?

Yes it is, but I will be running motronic not CIS. With CIS the K27 variations are the best.

If you are going w/ a custom header design, I go w/ the GT35r or a gt37 w/ a to4 hot side( that is what I am running)

or get the custom flange that mates up to you headers.

turbokraft.com, sells the GT35r kit gor the 964 turbo's

I'm leaning towards the Garretts too as my ultimate goal is minimal lag/spool time and fat tq/hp curves and not necessarily huge peak hp at 6k+ rpm. Isn't the GT35 a huge turbo? I currently have a full B&B header/muffler system. Also any of you have experience with a muffler bypass and is this the best way to go?

Cat bypass and muffler bypass give you quick spool by the sound is ugly. Best thing for you to do is seach Rennlist in the 964 turbo section. I did an exhaust comparison there that is fairly extensive. Just bolting on a Garrett turbo is not going to do anything great for you. You will have to change the cams to benefit from the extra boost and do a fuel head modification to have the CIS system not lean out. PLEASE got to a good shop that is familiar with CIS before you just bolt on a Garrett turbo. Plus you will have to get oil cooling to that turbo (not required for the KKK).

P.S. you will have to modify the B&B flange to accept a Garrett turbo (not a big deal)
