964 Turbo Picture Thread.

I'm considering the purchase of a 965 3.3 Turbo S (US Version) and can't find much info on them -- everything is for the lightweight Euro version. I generally don't get excited about Turbo 911's as I've owned multiple RS and Club Sport variants that I've imported from Germany -- but the 964 is my favorite and I guess the Turbo S is a unique street car (I have 1 of 7 Speedsters in Speed Yellow).
Any/all info (or URL's I can visit) would be great as I'm a long-time collector and PCA member -- but whereas the 993 Turbo S gets good publicity, I can't find much on the 80 964 versions built as it relates to how the US version differs. For instance, the Euro versions seem to have the intake dimple on the rear fenders -- whereas the US car I'm looking at does not.
Any help would be great!

One of twenty knows the entire story better than anyone.
BTW the signal green turbo 3.6 is now currently residing in Holland IIRC. This car was owned by Mike on rennlist and he sold it. there are very few 94 turbos still left in the US.

How long ago did you sell your white 964 Turbo 3.6? I bought a Grand Prix White Turbo 3.6 from Carousel Porsche a while back. Tan interior and supple leather with six disc cd changer the only options on the car. Just wondered if it might be your old one????

That is because they never made a 1992 turbo S only a 94 turbo S. The 94 story can be found here www.flachbau.com The 92 was called the S2 as pictured by one of twenty. These were stock 964 3.3 turbos that were sent to Andial where the engine was removed and converted to basically a variation of the X33 euro package engine although i think Andial got a little more out of them. Most have been modified which IMO renders them no more valuable than a modified 92 turbo maybe a little for the recognition of being one of 20 but those that are still in original configuration should hold their value best. There are a few that were damaged and half of the came with the S2 badging the other half with standard turbo script.

I also have a 1997 993 Turbo Black/Black with sports seats all the right options, blah, blah, blah. But I still LOVE the kick of the single turbo.....there is just something about those 964 Turbo's Porsche got so right.

I have been looking for vin information on rennlist http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...fo-needed.html
Other than the 13 cars that have supplied me information I have a source that gave me 39 vin numbers along with another 50 I have compiled over the years.
As I have suspected so far there are no vin numbers 1 through 60 since all of these numbers seem to have been used as test mules so I believe there were only 350 stock US 94 turbo 3.6's produced. Subtract the cars that I know to have been scrapped, have salvage titles, higher miles and have been shipped over seas we have far fewer of these cars here in the US than I would like to see. My guess is we have less than 200 decent versions left here could be as little as 150.
As far as dimples I am assuming you are talking the turbo S's? These are very rare in the US with less than the original 39 flachbau's and possibly all of the 17 package cars still around. IIRC you should have 27 versions made for the ROW market and there are 2 versions of the 10 Japanese versions all in polar silver. You also have the very prized 1992 3.3l turbo S lightweight that we never received here in the US.
It is still my opinion the 1992 ROW turbo S and the 17 US turbo S package cars are the prettiest of all these cars but only slightly more so. I prefer the large 94 turbo S tail and brake ducts over the 92 tail but either looks fantastic on these cars. I have probably the only remaining factory turbo S tail in original gel coat and appropriate screens and shrouding in existence. I have been toying with the idea of painting it to match my cobalt 94 but not sure if I should. The brake ducts to match would be nice but I can't consider damaging perfect original paint.

Actually...in this case it is the whole package. I have a 964 RS America with a built 3.8, and it's an absolute thrill. I can only imagine how much fun your Turbo must've been!
