Who uses their 964 as a daily driver?
Hi folks!
Just wanted the input of those who use their 964's as a daily driver.....thinking about getting one soon, and it would be my daily driver, mostly to get to and from the office.
Are they adequate? Comfortable? Any issues to look out for?
Thanks!!!

I ran mine through 3 years of DD service including several harsh winters. I still have the car, but not as a DD. I never had overheating problems once I removed the undertray. I think oil leaks are probably a bigger concern. They are inevitable, but some are significant and require a pricey re-seal to fix.

mine is a daily driver , 213k miles on it. Sees rain in winter. Never had any heating issues or major oil leaks. Mine is a tip and is excelelnt when in traffic every day. I prefer it to the 6 speed Cayman for every day use.

I got my 94k mile '91 C2 in March and drove it through the Texas summer including slow DFW traffic. I drive it to work 3-4 days a week (~25mi roud trip) and it stays home when weather gets jacked up.
It has no undertray and the temp did run a bit hot, usually hovering between 9-10 o'clock on the gauge when in stopped traffic, but dropped to 8-9 as soon as I got moving. The reason this happens is because the hi-speed on the oil cooler fan takes too long to kick in per factory settings. There's a real simple and inexpensive way to fix the issue by soldering in a resistor on the sensor wiring. I plan to do this modification before next spring/summer.
It does lose a bit of oil, drips a bit on the garage floor, but just keep an eye on it and carry an extra quart for top offs. Obviously, if it is gushing oil, you show have it rebuilt/resealed, but if it's minor, then you can buy a couple thousand quarts of oil before it equals the cost of a rebuild/reseal.
Make sure you get a thorough PPI from a mechanic who is knowledgable of 964s and make sure to ask for a leakdown test be performed.

We are now using our 964 as a daily driver. Retired our 540i after 4 radiators, several water pumps, an ECU, then the timing chain failed prior to 90,000 miles. With all of the additional minor issues we had with it, decided to call it enough and had it hauled off. After being diligent about maintaining it at good shops, it was still kept falling apart. Now we are looking to replace it, but not with another BMW.

Not that it changes a damn thing, but fairly irregular on the bad luck w/ the 540i. What's the miles and maintenance / driving history of the 964.

Did the OP ever get one?
Follow up on mine - still have it, but I finally bit the bullet for the reseal. Of course I got the "while you are in there" disease. She's getting a full re-build to 3.8L, including remachined heads! Should be really fun when it's done later in January. Pretty big hit to the wallet, but less than I expected.

We paid more in maintenance for the 540i than we did for both our 964 and a 3.2 Targa!

When my DD was getting some work done, I used the 964 (C2) as my daily. Rock solid automobile. I mean, these were $60k+ cars back in the early 90's. It actually behaved quite well sitting in LA traffic (ie, didn't over heat during summer) and got decent gas mileage (about 16-18 mpg city and 22-24 mpg highway). The MPG's go down when the highway opens up a little bit, but that's part of the fun when DD'ing a P-car. Enjoy in good health!

I have had my 1989 964 for 12 years I drive it all year long. I live in Tahoe last year I had 31 feet of snow at my home I drive it all winter it has been a great car. If you take care of your car they are so well made they will last a very long time. Vern.

I own a 91 964 that I used as a DD from 2000-08. Basic maintenance only with 180K miles. No overheating problems in Houston summer traffic but watch out for oil leaks. I spent much less to utilize the 964 as a DD than I do on my 996tt.
