This surprises me a lot to be honest...

Not that the Mclaren isn't a great car... It is of course! What else to expect for that amount of money?

I'm probably in the minority, but the car doesn't do anything to me.
I don't like the design, I don't like the fit and finish as much as that of a 991..... I do, however, like the sound (for a turbocharged engine) and how comfortable the car is. I don't think the car is so much more special than a 911, especially compared to the 991 Turbo S. That does everything equally as well, except the exhaust note, for a lot less money. (Now I make it almost sound as if the 911 TTS is a bargain, which it isn't of course )
I can understand that people would choose the MP4 over a 997 Turbo S, but the 991 is a leap forward, like it should be. The 997 couldn't keep up with the McLaren in any way, but IMO the 991 can.
The McLaren in general is a very nice piece of engineering and a great car, but so is the 911. IMHO the Mclaren is hugely overvalued a lot of times.

I don't want to start nagging about the McLaren, but it just surprised me how many people would choose it over a 991 Turbo S.

To the OP: whatever you choose, you can't go wrong here, that's for sure. What to like more or less, is a matter of personal taste. Both cars are great.

Yes I wonder why there isn't a long queue for the fax in this case? May have something to do with resale which is atrocious...definitely worse than the tts.

Great feedback and really helpful. Thanks for your opinions and experiences.

In the meantime, the dealer called me and found an allotment for the 991 turbo build. Great, but it takes 4 months to get car. I do consider the Porsche less "exotic" and potentially more durable for everyday use and both of these appeal to me.

This thread shows where 991 Turbo S is thrown with its (new) price. Most cars worth over $200k offer some sort of exclusivity since most buyers ask for that in this price range. That is why most forum members picked 12C. I wonder do we need Turbos`s practicality in this price range
On other side, some members have interesting prepositions. While recommending OP to take 12C, in same time they have 991 Turbo S on order

To me, its what I want from a car. A car at this level needs to provide an excitement and adrenaline factor, which is sort of nullified in the TTS. The only 911's that give me that constant raw thrill are the GT2/3 variants. The GT2/3 are not pleasant to drive slow or in traffic, they are for special occasions. The MP4 is not as thrilling as a 458 Italia but its more so than a 911.
Of course there are draw backs like, lack of rear seats and many other creature comforts, but again that is not why a pick a car like this.

I assume that my post is affected by this statement too Practicality, service costs and usability during all year seasons are not main goals for $200k cars. Most people who can afford cars that expensive own more cars in their garage (most often wife`s SUV, daily driver & sports car) and every car have its own purpose.

So, imagine yourself as a guy who is in market for 991 Turbo S, 12c & R8. When you open your garage on weekends what would you like to have in:

1. Audi Q5, BMW 5, Porsche Turbo S
2. Audi Q5, BMW 5, McLaren MP4-12C
3. Audi Q5, BMW 5, Audi R8

That's an easy one...
Number 1

As an alternative number 3 and number 2 only when those other 2 aren't possible...

Haha... Yes you have a point there
I did however consider the R8 as well. Beautiful car and great sound from the V10. McLaren is and will never be my cup of tea, so I don't share the enthusiasm of most people.

Exactly,
I would not consider a +200K thrill car as my DD or only car. There are +200k cars that are practical and can be DD, like Bentleys for example. But I am not at that financial level to DD a car like that and have an expensive thrill car too.
