Kline Exhaust System

I am new to Porsche and to the forum. I have a 2017 911 Turbo S Cabriolet and have been wanting to do an exhaust upgrade. In my opinion, that is the only stock option that could use a little improvement.

Over the last few months, and after doing much research, I made a decision to go with Kline Innovations Exhaust. After doing research regarding Kline dealers, I decided to go with By Design Automotive Group. This decision was made somewhat easy after seeing many positive reviews and feedback about By Design and its owner, Sam.

Last week, I finally made contact with Sam and we discussed the available options. It was immediately clear that Sam is very knowledgeable in the products and was never 'pushy', nor did he try to upsell. After thoroughly discussing, I decided to go with the stainless steel 70mm plus system with 100 cell cats, including the manifolds & BMC air filter. I was extremely happy with the entire process and the package price.

Over the weekend, I started to look more into the inconel system. Today, I contacted Sam and after discussing this system, he was able to put together a package that was a no-brainer for me to upgrade from the stainless steel system to the inconel system.

I should be receiving the system no later than next week and will have my local Porsche dealer do the install. I will provide before/after feedback after the installation of the new system.

I would like to add that my experience dealing with Sam has been nothing short of spectacular. His willingness to work with me, enabling me to upgrade to the inconel system, his immense knowledge of the products, and his straight forward sales approach, are all reasons that I feel extremely comfortable with this purchase and would highly recommend him to others.

Thanks, look forward to seeing/hearing the new system. 1000+ miles on the new car with no issues. Absolutely love it!

Like I said Sam has been great!

I went the next step and bought some of the Kline equal-length headers, and after a baseline dyno this week I'll be installing them. Always more to look forward to

Got the inconel headers and bmc filter as well. 100cell cats. Car is new so I didn't want any CEL issues and not ready for a tune just yet.

Can't wait to see your numbers.

Wow Bill thanks for the kind words! And Chris you know I don't like you!
Like I always say I am racking up clients and friends so thanks guys!

I wanted to attach some before and after dyno sheets for the By Design/Kline 70mm system with 100cel HJS Motorsports cats and equal length manifolds. The car was dyno'd cold stock and then run a second time to see the effects of the heat produced after a hard run. The again the next day after the system was installed. Interestingly you will see typical gains without any adaptation time. But look what happens when you compare the second runs to each other!

^ Cold vs cold 1st run no adaptation or tuning.

^ 2nd run vs second run.

I'll be interested to compare notes on the change in sound moving from stock (unequal length) headers to equal length. You're doing the cat-back (and no cats) at the same time, so that sort of makes it hard to isolate the change in sound, but I'm interested none-the-less.

The "unequal length sound" is what makes boxers like the WRX/STi and the 3.8 non-turbo flat six rumble. The (up to) 2016 911 GTS is "peak 911 rumble" for our cars. But equal length is more efficient, and makes for better breathing as the exhaust pulses no longer pile onto each other. On the other hand, when you put equal length headers on a Subaru it sounds like...well... an inline 4. Mitsubishi, Honda, whatever. It is a much less aggressive sound.

So I'm rather interested in what the car will sound like with the equal length headers and I've been doing a lot of recording to make sure that I get a good A/B comparo.

Headers have several benefits in the recipe but sound wise they close the gap to that lovely GT3 sound! Under no boost with the windows open she sounds like a GT3 WITH and exhaust. Then under boost it's just a beast! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Followup on Kline Innovation inconel exhaust system:

Today I picked up my car from Kings Auto Mall Porsche (BTW great place!). After the system and all parts were installed it was like looking at a work of art. The Porsche service foreman, Eric, who did all the work, commented several times on the quality of the system. Eric has been working on Porsches for 30 years and has a track purpose built 911 turbo that he built himself, so he knows his stuff!!

At first start-up, both Eric & I looked at each other, both smiling ear to ear! Eric said “That sounds fantastic!”. We then took the car for a test drive, with Eric driving. During the test drive, both Eric and I were in awe of the total difference in the car. Eric pointed out that there was absolutely no drone to this system and was highly impressed, to the point that he now wanted Sam’s contact info for himself.

My impressions - the car sounds much cleaner at low idle. As you get on the gas, the car seems to almost get mad at you and starts to scream! We took the car for about a 10 mile spirited drive and then returned to the dealership. Eric put the car back up on the lift to re-check everything and he also checked the temperature of the headers and surrounding parts via a thermal gun. He again was very impressed at how low the temps were and how quickly the inconel system cooled down. He hooked the car up to the computer to verify there were no faults, and everything checked out perfect.

I left with the car to go home. I obviously got on the car a little harder than Eric had done, and when you get into it the car just screams. People in cars next to me start looking around wondering to see where the ‘noise’ was coming from. At one point, I looked over as I was passing an older gentleman, who had his window up, and he had a smile on his face and gave me a thumbs up!

First I would like to mention that this is my first collaboration with Sam and Felix. Throughout this entire process, including during the install, I was in close contact with both of them. The customer service I received during this entire process was exceptional! They are both eager & happy to answer any questions, both during and after business hours.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a QUALITY exhaust system, as well as exceptional customer service, these are your guys!! If you don’t include them in your research when modifying your car, you are cutting yourself way short.

Thanks again to Sam from By Design Automotive Group and Felix from Kline Innovation, both class acts!!!!

Bill

So awesome Bill! You've been amazing to work with and I really appreciate it. The service manager actually called me and we had a great conversation. It's always a nice complement when they are pleased!

I can believe it. The shop Forman wants the car back on Tuesday to just do a re-check. He said not needed, but wanted to hear the car again.

Day 2, just getting better and finding every reason I can to drive the car!

Thanks again Sam!

Almost forgot, last night I did some revs in my driveway. Shortly after, one of my neighbors is walking up my driveway asking "what the hell did you do to this car." He said it sounded great and thought I actually bought a new/different car.

Been working on this for you. Could only attach as a sound file, for now, video has unacceptable file extension. The clip doesn't do it justice, but does sound good!!
